January found us in Hawaii. We left Fort Worth on the morning of January 1st. This particular year, Texas A&M was playing Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl. When we finally arrived in Hawaii, we had to see who won. Tennessee of course. Good omen for our marriage don’t you think? The wife wins! Wink, wink!
Our family and close friends all joined us to celebrate our marriage ceremony. The night before our “big day” we went to a luau. A truly unique “rehearsal dinner” if you ask me!
My dear friends, Scotty and Kristi joined us. I should tell you that he was quite impressed that you could get the live college football games in the very early morning hours, all because of the time difference. I don’t have any photos to prove this story but I do have witnesses.
Earlier in the day, we were shopping at a little center next to the hotel. As we were leaving, Annie spotted Cher. We argued back and forth about whether it really was her. So Annie walked up to her and asked. It was her. Once Scotty heard the news, he headed over there with video camera in hand. Trying to be sly, he was hiding in bushes trying to follow her. Unfortunately, he mixed up the recording button. When he was aiming at her, it wasn’t recording, but when he put the camera down, it was recording. It made for some very funny watching. Here they are at the luau.
My folks, Sharon and Bill also enjoyed the luau.
Here we are with John and Annie, Tim’s brother and his wife.
After dinner enjoying the show.

The entire luau group.

The next day was a little touch and go with the weather. Luckily, it cleared enough for us to have a truly beautiful ceremony. For the occasion, I had a pair of boots made. They have palm trees! They are fabulous!

Our ceremony was perfect. Yes, I could be biased. The minister was very caring and made us feel special. He sang to us at one point. Afterward, our wedding planner said she had never heard him do that before. So we were special. This is the beginning of the ceremony.
And the wedding party.

After the ceremony, our photographer took us down to the water to get some amazing photographs. If you are getting married, I highly recommend doing it in Hawaii. If you look close, you can see us with the photographer in the lower right corner.
Here we are happily married at sunset.
After all of the photographs were done, we headed to the Wailea Country Club for our wedding dinner. Once again, another fabulous meal. I think there were at least three other brides dining there at the same time. Kind of funny seeing all of us in our white dresses!
We spent the rest of the trip relaxing and enjoying our honeymoon. I can’t wait to go back.
Once we were back in Fort Worth, we were preparing for our local reception. We invited folks to join us at Blue Mesa to celebrate our marriage. It was another fun evening with family and friends. And of course yummy food!
For the next couple of month, we wrote a bunch of thank you notes and just enjoyed being newlyweds.
In April, some dear friends of ours were married in Kansas. Due to a family emergency, we couldn’t make it to Mark and Kelly’s wedding, but heard it was wonderful.
In May, we added another member to the household. Cinco joined us on Mother’s Day. He was named Cinco because he was the 5th member of the household: 1 - Me, 2 - Morgan, 3 - Tim, 4 - Sally (a wild bird who built a nest on our porch and raised a bunch of babies) and 5 – Cinco. Tim thinks we named him this because he was our 5th project. Trust me, I know best. He was full of energy and Morgan couldn’t stand him. Mainly because she couldn’t catch him and he was always nipping at her back legs. Here he is on his first day with us. If only we had known he was going to grow into a 60 pound pooch!
The middle of May found us celebrating Mike and Malinda's wedding. She held her reception at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Very cool!
May also brought sad times for us. My real father passed away. I had only seen him sporadically throughout my life, but it was still an emotional time. The next month, we traveled to Tennessee to bury him. It was nice to see folks from his past and hear their stories about him.
Also in June, we attended the wedding shower of my cousin Megan. She and Ben make a happy couple.
More life changes to come in the latter half of the year.
